Proposed By-Law Guidelines |
At the January 14, 2006 District Committee meeting the special Ad-Hoc Committee presented the proposed By-Law Guidelines as requested by the District. All GSRs and other members of the District Committee in attendance received a copy and the DCM and Secretary will also try to get copies to GSRs who were absent. While GSRs have the "Right of Decision", in keeping with the A.A. Service Manual and Twelve Concepts all GSRs are asked to discuss the guidelines with their groups to help create an "informed district conscience". Every attempt has already been made to base the By-Law Guidelines on the core A.A. principles listed in the beginning of the document. However, suggestions for key revisions may be made in writing at the next District 10 business meeting (in February) and should specifically cite the AA principles/source upon which the proposed revision is based. Those suggestions will then be voted upon by the District. There will then be a final vote to accept the By-Law Guidelines with any agreed upon revisions. The District strongly encourages members to read the introductory section and in particular the sections on "Why Do We Need By-Law Guidelines?" and Bill W's article on "Keep It Simple ... But How?" in the appendix. In addition the appendix contains valuable articles by Bill W. and some helpful ideas for new GSRs, their roles within their groups, and in the district. Here is a copy of the By-Law Guidelines document that you may download. It is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. A free Acrobat Reader is available at the Adobe website if you don't have one. Please note that the original document is printed duplex (two sides) and is thus about half the number of pages as the PDF format. |
