First District 10 Meeting - May 14,1988 - (Page 1)
The meeting was called to order May 14, 1988 at 10:15 a.m. at the Eagle River Town Hall by John L, District Contact and eagle river Group delegate
Ron L led the group in a prayer
The 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts were read
John L addressed the purpose of the district meeting, it being as follows:
Make the district self-supporting, functioning and running.
Fulfill our obligation to carry the message.
Group Unity
Elections of service bodies
Thorough discussion before voting
Serve God & AA--Give back some of what we have taken
A roll call of the groups in attendance was taken. A 43% turnout was registered. Groups in attendance and their representatives as follows:
John L read a letter to the members in which he cited the condition of the district and the member groups as he perceived the situation. The main problems as he sees them are as follows;
Adherance to traditions lacking
No phone number contacts for the areas
A meeting list of just AA groups unavailable
Few groups support the GSO or each other
Non AA literature is being used at meetings
The A.A. message is Not being spoken
The "Home Group" concept is not being used or understood
There is a lack of trust
Problems with professional affiliations
Gossiping and breaches of anonymity
A discussion followed regarding these points:
Questions were raised by Larry V and Trish G regarding the issue of Open vs. Closed meetings and how to treat the question of dual addiction.
Qualifications of a GSR was read from the AA Service Manual
The AA structure was explained
The description and qualifications of the DCM were addressed
The district structure was explained
A suggested voting agenda was presented
A discussion regarding non- AA literature and study guides being used at meetings followed
Break-for lunch at 12:30 with elections to follow the-lunch break
